Perhaps desert would be a proper term for this land, yet it simply wouldn't fit with the snowy plains and thick forests and meadows. There was a desert as well, but the heat was unbearable. Sure it seemed deserted, but looks can be deceiving yes? I had arrived not long ago and searched for days for existing royalty to find that none remained. It had been then that I had taken things into my own hands and claimed Xenon to be ruled by me. I'm sure the Zraels don't mind for I am another ally they can come to in times of need. An ally without an army that is. Time will pass and the equines will return to this land as I had. Instinct had been strong for me, pulling me ever closer to this island, it shall do the same for them. How I arrived here I still am unsure. I knew I was on an island, yet I had no wings to take me here. Perhaps it was a sign from above?
My dark dappled coat shown dimly in the fading light as the moon was covered by clouds. Ebony strands of hair whipped my sides as small pests tried to hitch a ride. Damn flies. If only it would rain, for then the pesky critters would flee for cover and leave me from bother by their relentless rampage for blood. It's a shame that control over such elements has evaded me. Sure, I am more in tune with other equines than most, but what is the point of such power when one stands alone? No fresh scent reaches me, only the aged and fading smells are there to remind me of what used to be and what it could be now. I needed to build this land, but first I needed to quench my thirst.
Funny thing, instinct is. I turned ninety degrees off of my current path and headed that way in search of water. It was only a few hundred yards away when I reached the flowing river and was able to drink. The cool water ran down my throat, chilling my insides and rejuvenating my energy. When I looked up, open gates loomed above, beckoning for me to enter. I did just that and found myself on a path that lead to a castle not far from here, but in sight instead. Picking up a trot I picked my way along the trail, watching for any stones that may catch in my hooves. A few rodents scattered around me, fleeing as I growled in disgust.
My hooves met the solid ground of the castle floor, creating an echoing clang that vibrated around the room. It was not in amazing shape in the least, but it was manageable. I stepped over fallen debris and picked my way through several rooms in my exploration. I came across a large mirror and had to stare at my reflection. My tired eyes stared back at me, reminding me of much needed rest. Figuring that this is the best place for it considering no one can enter unheard, I will rest here. I moved away from the mirror and towards the castle entrance, stopping short before reaching it and allowed my eyes to close. Rest took over almost immediately as my lower lip became limp and my head lowered in a relaxed position. Rest would fully re-energize me, as long as I wasn't disturbed.

Ears twitched while hooves trudged one by one through a stream that babbled over the rocks as it cut through the thick nearly dead trees in the heart of the Western Woods. A place he felt so comfortable with no sun only overcast skies, trees that bore hardly a leaf, berries that would kill most equines but not he. The ground so matted with decaying leaves, and thorny bushes that grew wild within these woods.
Not often did the wind blow through the Woods during the day, often they gusted on stormy or cold nights. Nights he enjoyed galloping swiftly through the hollows of the Woods like a dark shadowy ghost occasionally releasing a screaming neigh.
But today... upon the wind was a scent so faint and yet new that he stopped, perking up, ears erect forward as his head turned in the direction from which the scent came- The Castle. With spiked curiosity now he pondered for a short time what to do and decided. Twisting towards the direction of the wind, he made his way towards the Castle from where this new scent eminated from.
It was quite the trek from the Western Woods to the heart of the former King and Queen's hearth. But now he finally arrived and was delighted with the strength of the scent. There was no denying it, there was someone here. A mare in particular. Now his curiosity was spiked even further.
Striding into the castle, picking his way ever so carefully for one never knew if it was a trap or a hoax. The clip-clop of his large hooves resounded throughout the Castle as his red-brown eyes glanced about remaining ever so vigilant waiting for some equine to leap out and challenge him to a fight. But all he saw was the empty Castle and heard nothing more than the sound of his hooves.
He didn't go far before he spotted the figure of the mare he caught the scent of. Slowly with a step here followed by a pause then another step and a pause as he locked his hues upon the mare, always keeping her in his view. The giant black stallion stood there, almost snorting as his head held high wondering who this mare was and why she dared to make herself comfortable in the Castle.

[atrb=border,0,true][atrb=style, background-image:url(http://i52.tinypic.com/1z3nvuw.jpg), border: solid #ffffff 5px; width: 400px; height: 400px;] TREES flashed by in slight blurs underneath a buckskin mare. a tail of duel coloring lazily trailed behind the flying mare. massive wings of dark brown, nearly black, sliced through the air with powerful strokes. with a massive stroke, the mare pushed herself higher above the trees. the heat had started to get to the mare and the air higher up was slightly cooler and a light breeze moved through the high altitudes causing her tail of charcoal and black to move around like a snake. her mane of the same colors joined in on dance her tail had started to partake it and she continued to fly around.
THE mare altered her course slightly and started towards the castle hidden between the trees. she once again dropped down closer towards the trees and she flew. stray branches whistled by under her and every so often one of her hooves would clip a single branch that decided to grow higher then the rest in the tree. the mare snorted as a particularly high branch smacked against her left fore limb. when her hind limb came into contact with it, she gave a kick, causing the top of the branch to snap off and tumble to the ground below.
HER wings flared as a small fire flared into life in front of her. multi toned tail flicked and her dial shook as she hovered in once place for a moment, the small fire just a foot in front of her. snorting, she gave a powerful stroke and rose above the reaches of the flames. her buckskin pelt shivered as she looked behind and below herself at the fire. you need to pay more attention when you fly! she snapped to herself. staying high above, she once again raced towards the castle.
WHEN she was almost to the castle, the mare decreased her speed and started to look for a place to land so she could walk into the structure. as she circled above, her gaze landed on another equine who had the same idea as her. when she spotted a good place to land, she tucked her wings slightly and shot towards the earth. at the last moment she flared them back out and landed with a soft thud. she ran forward a few steps to make sure she was balanced before tucking her wings against her sides. shuffling slightly, she turned towards the entrance to the castle and headed on in.
ONCE inside the castle, the mare looked around for the stallion that had entered before her. she was shocked to find not only the stallion, but another mare as well. softly snorting, she took a few steps closer to investigate. as she was looking, a caw echoed through the entrance. a single crow flew inside and landed on the mare's right wing. there you are. she spoke softly to the bird before looking back to the two equines. and who, she spoke with a slight hiss to her words, moving her gave between the two, are you?

Sleep had greeted me with a gentle caress of relaxation. It was short lived however when the sound of heavy footfalls echoed throughout the castle chambers. My dark eyes snapped open and I swung around sharply to find a stallion not far from where I stood. I took in his muscled form and the confidence that surrounded him but decided he had not come here to harm as I felt his curiosity radiated from deep within him. The feeling seemed to pulsate through the air towards me, altering my own feelings to slightly mimic his. I parted my lips to speak, but was again interrupted by the sound of wings beating and more hooves meeting solid ground. A scowl formed upon my features as a mare made her way into the entrance, stopping short of the stallion and myself. I was about to speak again, when a crow flew in and landed upon the mare.
And who are you? The words met my ears and I offered a small laugh before speaking. Anymore intrusions? I waited for more interruptions and none came. Excellent, then introductions are in order I take it. I didn't like the mares tone but dismissed it as ignorance. She didn't know who she was speaking to, but she would know soon. I am Calamity. I paused, raising my head high and taking a step towards the duo. The newly appointed Nyx Queen. So really I would be your queen. I spoke to both of the equines, allowing my gaze to meet each of the others for the same amount of time before continuing. Good Sir and Lady, what may I call you? I politely dipped my head in a gesture of acknowledgment and respect towards them both. I sensed surprise from the mare when she had first arrived but she seemed to be recovering quite quickly from when she entered. I wasn't sure what I sensed from the mare now, but perhaps she wasn't certain how she was feeling.
I shifted my weight to my left, allowing my right rear to bend slightly as I put myself into a relaxed position. None threatening and professional was the look I was aiming for, but perhaps it was to much? I didn't want to seem uncaring or vulnerable in the least.
OOC: Sorry for being incredibly short. I have to go to work. I'll reply more next time I promise!!!

Those haunting reddish brown eyes locked upon this mare with a blank gaze, attempting to figure something out, wondering who the mare was and why she was here. Glancing sideways with that haunting gaze at the other mare that just arrived, one who could fly it would seem and he narrowed his gaze with his ears flicked back just slightly in annoyance. Those with over useful powers seemed to annoy him most. General reason behind it that he obviously never liked to talk about it. Never! Glaring at the flying mare that just arrived, with ears flicked back just slightly and narrowed eyes, his nostrils flared and he snorted as he stood proud and tall while he stomped his front right leg. Causing a resounding pong throughout the chamber.
Returning his haunting gaze to the mare who was already here with a heavy huff, that reddish brown gaze watching her as he listened to her words.
Raising a brow as he cocked his head just a hair to the side. So she claimed to be the new Queen, hmm? This would be interesting. Pity there was no blood battle.... or maybe there would be if this flying mare would challenge her.
"Daredevil," he boomed with a velvety, creepy almost deep voice that had a haunting edge to it. Perfectly matching his appearance and demeanor. "Lord of the Western Woods," he concluded.
"And who," as he shifted a tad, looking about the chambers of this castle they were currently within, "appointed you as Queen?" Then returned his haunting wicked reddish brown gaze to Calamity. "I know I certainly haven't appointed you," he almost sounded seething and unwilling to accept this self-appointment.
"Are you sure... you can handle the Briels?" He growled, stressing the point that she perhaps could not lead them into battle if necessary. He will question and test this new Queen if necessary. He had to. It was his life and his land and his future upon the line. The new King and Queen would have to be able to handle all that was expected of the role. Even... a challenge.

The vibe of curiosity had nearly faded but now a doubtful feeling came over her, drifting from the stallion.
"Daredevil. Lord of the Western Woods....And who appointed you as Queen? I know I certainly haven't appointed you.... Are you sure... you can handle the Briels?" My ears flattened in utter annoyance as I removed the mare from my gaze and glared at the stallion before me. I moved yet closer to him, a low growl emitting from deep within myself. "Those gates you passed through on your way here, the ones that reach the skies, impossible to pass through on foot or flight. The gates that remained closed since the royalty of the past disappeared. Those gates opened for no one before now. Those gates opened for me. I was appointed by something much higher than yourself, Sir Daredevil."
I had stopped very close to the stud, my dark eyes never leaving his. I was very much in striking range, and filled with my own rage. Hasn't been very long since I became the Queen and already I'm wanting to stomp on my own kind. The stallions last words still echoed in my head. "Is anyone ever fully sure they can take on an opponent? Over confidence gets yourself killed. Right now would I be able to take on the Briel? I hope not, I'd like to think I'd be fighting a harder target than that. In time, when the Nyx reunite and our army grows, we had better be able to take the Briel." I paused allowing my gaze to wonder back to the mare before returning to Daredevil. "When the time comes, will you be able to stand along side your fellow Nyx and fight? That is the question Lord of Western Woods. Will you be able to bring those of your territory to a war in which they may loose? Nothing is certain in life, you should know this."
My voice trailed off with a tinge of disappointment audible in my words. I had chosen my words carefully, trying not to allow my built up anger to break free from my mental chambers I have placed to hold it in. I took a step back from the brute, allowing myself some breathing room. A fight would be a waste of precious energy. It would not be a bright move to provoke it. I waited patiently for the mares introduction, silently hoping for less of a pain in the ass comment.

Narrowing his eyes as he glared at this new self appointed Queen as she spoke to him.
He chuckled at the fact that 'they' opened for her. "Have you considered the entrance opens to we Nyxses and we Nyxses only? Hmmm?" Glancing about. "I'd like to see a Briel at least attempt to prance through those gates." His momentary amusement disappeared as his reddish like eyes returned to the mare, and continued to glare at her. Taking full measure of this self appointed Nyxs Queen. He wasn't immediately convinced she was the one for the job. She didn't appear like she had it in her.
Lifting and holding his head up higher and snorted as he peered down his muzzle, glaring at the mare after she stepped away and yet spoke on. Her words boiled his blood. Nothing in life is certain? Her words were as though they were defeated already! He reared, squealed as he tossed his head about, then stomped back down upon the ground. "COWARD!" he cried out. Then glared at her as he stood in a position where his legs were grounded well and proud. "Of course I can arouse any equine within my realm into battle!" He snorted. "The would fight most willingly and without a hint of defeat," as he narrowed his eyes and slightly lowered his head as it stuck out a bit more, "unlike you whom you already sound as though we are defeated. Those are not words of a cautious Regent, but the words of one who is afraid and already is defeated!" He snorted again as steam bellowed out. His eyes almost seemed redder as he watched the mare who was their supposed Queen. "If you are and want to be our Queen, you have to show yourself with no fear, no defeat, full of confidence, fire in your breast, brimstone in your belly, and behave as though none but the Nyxses are worthy for this world!"
Pausing a moment as he watched her. "You don't have it in you," he simply said.

I listened to his rant, lips remaining sealed as to keep the smile from reaching them. Once he finished I nodded. Gates are metaphorical. I spoke in a crisp tone with a flick of my tail in a dismissive motion. I moved my gaze from his, working my way over his form, taking in every bit of bulk and muscle. He was a leader in and out and he knew it, but I didn't. Until now at least. I needed to see it and I wanted him to know that he had passed a critical test without actually telling him so. Not in front of a mare who has managed to allow us to get to this point without inputting anything of her own. It was a smart move for her, not to get in the way of two tempers, and it made her appear calm and collected but it didn't tell me if she wanted to let others do her dirty work, or if it meant she had a gift of patience.
I did not merely choose to be Queen, but was more so chosen with unspoken words and granted yet another power. I strode towards him yet again, speaking so only he could hear my next few words. You are in the right to confront me as such, and my respect for you is growing. I am aware of the things I said and aware of how they look. You passed my test, solider. Let's not make it easy for her to figure this out on her own. I flicked my eyes in the direction of the mare, hoping he'd get the hint. I took a step back and allowed myself to fill with false rage and fury. A show, if you will, because I didn't yet know what these two possessed as gifts. I rose my head and snarled. Speak to me in such a manner again, I will take your breath from you. She had meant it, but it ferocity it was thick with was all part of the act for the mare, who had yet to prove herself worthy of being called a Nyx.
I turned towards the mare, still keeping Daredevil in my peripheral vision. Confidence had radiated off of him, as well as true anger. Restraint was something I hadn't sensed so he would not leave my sight in my company until I was certain there wouldn't be any backstabbing. A good king he'd be, but as a lord of his own lands he has a duty and I doubt he will let anything get in the way of that, even a queen.
I looked expectantly towards the female, body placed in a casual stance. It was hard not to feel proud of the stallion for his want to fight for his realm but now I needed to focus on the other of the two. He was fine to speak his mind should he wish to, or he was fine to hold his tongue until the mare introduced herself.

Confused, perhaps even curious, but by no means was he going let his guard down. Not towards this new self-proclaimed Queen. He would continuously test her to no end. Granted the old ways were gone, the old King and Queen no longer here, many of the Nyxses non-existent. If it was just these three, they were in trouble. Especially against a mass of Briels and their devoted followers. He nearly groaned at the prospect of more of them, enough to overwhelm and wipe them out. How could the darkness balance the light this way with so few of them? Highly disturbing. It left him edgy and ready for some sort of feud.... or something. This new Queen better have a plan or they were doomed.
His dark eyes kept locked upon Queen when she moved near, his head held high as his nostrils flared. Not just a show to her how he really was - cunning, tempered, dangerous, etc - but there was truth to his appearance. He was dangerous. And...
His mind wandered she was near. This new Queen was alone. No Allies, no Army, nothing. Hiding a smirk as he glazed down his muzzle at her. As pompus as he was, he exuded more. After all, he was a Stallion among Mares. A pure show now to prove he was the greater of them and if he so wish, was the only chance at offspring. Oh, yes. That was such a massive delight to his thought process. They could do nothing without him.
He smirked as she turned away and now focused upon the other mare. His gaze remained upon the both of him as he stood there with his head held high, his body poised like a stallion in a show ring being judged for perfection. They were... his.
